EASA: European Aviation Safety Agency

Most training provided by Sun Aviation Training is in line with EASA standards.

The European Aviation Safety Agency is an European Union (EU) organization with regulatory and executive tasks in the field of civilian aviation safety. The responsibilities of EASA include to conduct analysis and research of safety, authorizing foreign operators, giving advice for the drafting of EU legislation, implementing and monitoring safety rules (including inspections in the member states), giving type-certification of aircraft and components as well as the approval of organizations involved in the design, manufacture and maintenance of aeronautical products.

EASA Part 147 and Part 66

In EASA Part 147 governs the training school and Part 66 governs the content of the training.

There are three levels of certification:

Category A-level (Line Maintenance Mechanic)

In order to obtain Category A-level the following is requested: Basic A category License + Task Training + Company Certification Authorization for specific Tasks. The A-Category aircraft maintenance license permits the holder to issue certificates of release to service, following minor scheduled line maintenance. The certification is restricted to those who have performed their Task training in a Part-145 organization, an EASA approved MRO-organization.

Category B1-level (Mechanical) and/or B2- level(Avionics) (Line Maintenance Technician)

To be certified as a B1/2 technician you need Basic B1/B2 category License + Type Training + Company Certification Authorization. A category B1/B2 aircraft maintenance license permits the technician to work on the aircraft structure, power plant and mechanical and electrical systems.

Category C (Base Maintenance Certifying Engineer)

The C-level is meant for engineers and higher educated people in the aviation branch. For the C-level the following is requested: Basic C category license + Type Training + Company Certification Authorization. A category C aircraft maintenance license shall permit the holder to issue certificates of release to service following base maintenance on aircraft.
